best asphalt shingle material
Impact Resistant Shingles offer superior protection.
Compared to regular asphalt shingles, impact resistant shingles feature some of the most advanced technology to give homeowners and advantage over extreme weather conditions.
Hail Damage Protection
Impact Resistant Shingles come in two classes, Class 3 and Class 4 impact resistance that can withstand 1.75″ – 2″ hail.
Strong Wind Protection
Depending the shingle manufacturer, impact resistant shingles have wind ratings between 130-160 mph.
Lower Insurance premiums
Premium discounts are offered because they reduce the risk of costly storm damage claims, making homes safer to insure.
Longer lifespan
Engineered with tougher materials, impact resistant shingles resist cracking, denting, and weather related wear.
HOW THEY WORK
Class 3 & 4 Impact Resistant Shingles
Impact-resistant shingles are tested using the UL 2218 Impact Resistance test, where steel balls of varying sizes (up to 2 inches for Class 4) are dropped from 20 feet onto the shingle to simulate hail impact.
The test evaluates how well the shingle resists cracking, tearing, or rupturing upon impact. Shingles that pass this test without showing visible damage earn a Class 1 to Class 4 rating, with Class 4 being the highest.
These shingles are engineered with reinforced materials like polymer-modified asphalt or rubber-like compounds that absorb and disperse impact energy, helping protect your roof from hail, debris, and severe weather damage.

Class 3 impact resistant shingles are UL certified by impacting the same spot of a shingle twice with a 1.75″ steel ball twice without compromising the shingle.
Class 4 impact resistant shingle are UL certified by impacting the same spot of a shingle twice with a 1.75″ steel ball twice without compromising the shingle.
